MATLAB is a programming and numeric computing platform used by millions of engineers and scientists to analyze data, develop algorithms, and create models. MATLAB is extremely useful for working with mathematical models.

Installing MATLAB at Home

To install MATLAB on a personally-owned machine, use the following instructions:

  1. Go to the Mathworks website and create an account. Students must use their @tjhsst.edu email
  2. Confirm your email and follow the link to the setup page
  3. Fill out your information. Select an appropriate Department: Student. Also make sure to select Mathematics as the Field of Study.
  4. Associate with license number: 18332-25780-63027-21100-78245Copy. Make sure to include the dashes. This will complete your account setup
  5. Once your account is created, click on My Account, and go to My Downloads
  6. Download one of the listed versions for your operating system and install! In the installation process you will be required to log in and verify your account and installation.
Alternatively, you can now use MATLAB Online.

Accessing Onramp Courses

Mathworks has some free courses to help you get started with using MATLAB. To access those courses, follow these instructions:

  1. On the MATLAB Home Page, click "Online Training" in the sidebar on the left under "Learn".
  2. Click "Getting Started" below "Self-Paced Courses".
  3. Click the MATLAB Onramp Course.
  4. Click "Start Course," or if you want to learn about something specific in MATLAB, click one of the topic dropdowns and click "Start Module"

Of course, you can always look at the other free courses if you want to learn more about MATLAB and math modeling. The Machine Learning onramp should particularly useful for TJMMC.
